Scala Messzeuge GmbH
High-quality measuring tools from Baden-Württemberg - that is what the name Scala Meßzeuge stands for and this for over 60 years. Friedrich J. Schall founds the company in the year 1938, slide calipers are produced in different versions. At first only the domestic market is served. After the outbreak of the war in 1939, the production continues under more difficult conditions - too many skilled workers are called up to be sent in the war.
In the postwar turmoil up to the currency reform in 1948 the demand for high-quality measuring tools increases only slowly. In addition to the industrial measuring tools the toy box Fridolin is produced, an intelligent plug-in modular system, which makes it possible for children to build their own fantasy vehicles from different basic elements. In the course of the progress of the fifties the distribution network in the domestic market and in the European countries is extended. In the following years F. J. Schall extends the export to the USA and to South America. The range of products comprises simple slide calipers, precision calipers, pocket calipers, workshop calipers and depth gauges up to a measuring range of 300 mm.
In 1954 the production starts in the new production building in Neuffen, Paulusstraße 10. The company is more and more run by the sons of the company founder. From 1956 on Dieter Schall is responsible for the technical management, some years later Berthold Schall takes the administrative management over. Changes on the market require the restructuring of the assortment. Now imported and very reasonable standard measuring tools belong as well to the range of products besides the high-quality precision measuring tools. A whole assortment of measuring tools for DIY hypermarkets completes the working program. In 1960 the company puts a worldwide new development on the market, the first slide caliper made of plastic.
In the following years Dieter and Berthold Schall extend the trade relations at home and abroad. The production capacities are enlarged. The international trade fairs and the stock exchanges of the trade associations demand the presence of the company. In 1974 a producers' cooperation in the field of precision measuring tools is made with the company Stiefelmayer in Esslingen. By 1992 the limited partnership F. J. Schall produces all slide calipers CSE (Christian Stiefelmayer Esslingen).
In 1976 another new development appears on the market: the range of Scala pocket slide calipers Alinox. The rule and the slide are made of aluminium, the measuring surfaces are produced of stainless and hardened steel. In 1984 the pocket slide calipers type Columbus with a non-reflective graduation go into production.
The rationalization in production and trade in the course of the eighties requires a massive adjustment to electronic data processing. In 1993 the limited partnership Friedrich J. Schall is transformed into the private limited company Scala Meßzeuge. In 1998 the company celebrates its sixtieth birthday. Oliver Klein is admitted to the management of the company by the two managers Dieter und Berthold Schall in 1999 to carry on the company. A young staff team takes now and in future care of the continuity in the company.
In 2009 the company moved to Dettingen/Teck
In spite of many changes in the course of the company history two principles have not been affected at Scala: the great demand on the quality of the products and the custom-made service. We will remain true to these principles for the future.
